Introduction to Somatics with Carolyn Pigott

You will be introduced to fundamental movements that reconnect your brain to your muscles. Through the practice of deep breathing techniques and mindful awareness you will discover areas of your body that are stuck in something called sensory motor amnesia, a chronically tight state in the muscles. You will be gently guided to unlock these patterns and feel a renewed sense of ease and comfort in these muscles. Your mind and body will relax and you will walk out feeling a renewed vitality to take on your life once again!

  • Yoga for Emotional Well Being 5:15-6:45pm
    5:15 pm-6:45 pm
    2019.11.04

    Yoga for Emotional Well Being

This class is suitable for those suffering with anxiety, depression and other stress- related conditions. “Stress” has become a common factor that most of us accept and live with in the western world. Increased levels of stress can lead to increased levels of cortisol (responsible for our “fight or flight” response) and, in the long term, several unpleasant physical, emotional, and mental conditions.

Yoga for Emotional Well Being will use the principles of Yoga and Hakomi (Body Centred Psychotherapy) to help you re-establish and nurture a connection with your authentic self.

Using yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, sound, visualization, guided relaxation and self-reflection, this class will help you to locate an oasis of peace that is always available within you. This practice will help you to develop your capacity to slow down, to be still and embrace silence.

Benefits of Yoga for Emotional Well Being may include increased mental focus and clarity, increased motivation and energy, increased capacity to experience joy and laughter, and an increased sense of equanimity.

Please bring a journal and pen to class. Please wear comfortable clothing. Mats and yoga props supplied.

Please note: This class is not suitable for those with serious mental health conditions. Please consult with your doctor or health care provider to assess whether this is a suitable class for you.

  • Yoga for Emotional Well Being 5:15-6:45pm
    5:15 pm-6:45 pm
    2019.11.18

  • Iyengar Yoga Workshop with Karin Rensfelt 9:30am-1:30pm
    9:30 am-1:30 pm
    2019.11.23

Iyengar Yoga Workshop with Karin Rensfelt.
    When: Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm.
About: The phrase finding your balance can hold many different meanings. How do you find balance in Ardha Chandrasana (half moon pose)? In your yoga practice? How do you find balance in your life? In regards to balancing asanas (poses), BKS Iyengar has said, “You must hold the balance by the intelligence of the body – by instinct or the sense of equilibrium – and not by strength. When you keep the balance by strength, it is physical action; when you keep it by the intelligence of the body, it is relaxation in action.” In this workshop we’ll explore that sense of equilibrium in various yoga poses and how working with the outer body can help bring quietness to the inner body.
    Investment: $60
    Register: Open to all levels.
To register, please contact Marie Landry at marielandry25@gmail.com
Facilitator: Karin started her teaching in Manitoba in 2002, then moved to Labrador before landing in Port Alberni in 2016. She is a certified Iyengar teacher with Junior Intermediate II certification and has learned from many senior teachers from across North America. Karin has been fortunate to study with the Iyengar family in Pune, India and Canada on multiple occasions. Karin is committed to a regular personal practice and ongoing learning. She is a motivating and encouraging instructor and is supportive of her students’ exploration of yoga.

    5:15 pm-6:45 pm
    2019.11.25

    3:15 pm-4:15 pm
    2019.11.28

    Children’s Yoga with Sue McGiffin

Yoga for kids is a balance between spontaneity and structure, kids learn to listen to each other as well as express themselves creatively. Kids learn best when they’re having fun so kids yoga classes interweave story, song, games and poses allowing children to learn in a multi-sensory environment which explores kinaesthetic (movement), visual, oral, inter-and intra-personal learning.

Kids will benefit by practicing in a non-competitive learning environment, developing and building strength, coordination, flexibility and balance. In addition to the physical benefits, yoga brings calmness and peace of mind allowing children to become more aware of their bodies, achieve better focus and concentration; or in yoga terms, creating mindfulness.
