    Starting January 8th, 2019, join Barb for her weekly Spring Forest Qigong practice, ‘Transform Your Energy, Transform Your Life!’.  Every Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 to 1:00pm at Nourish Wellness in Comox,  join other ‘Qi Transformers’ as you practice the simple, gentle movements of this meditative practice.

    You will find that practicing in a group magnifies the energy and furthers the healing!

    Drop-in rate is $12/practice.  6-visit cards available for a special rate of $50. Drop-in can be paid at the class. Registration is required for the special rate.  After registration, you will receive your card at the class.

    All are welcome! No experience necessary. Dress comfortably. Chairs are provided for the seated meditation at the end but you are welcome to bring a cushion, blanket or your own yoga mat if you would like to do the meditation lying down.

    A style of yoga that invites you to slow down and create space for stillness, nurture your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and fascia.  By holding the postures for 2-5 min or longer, the deeper connective tissues are affected and improvement in flexibility is the result.  The use of probs are encouraged in each posture so that the body feels supported and relaxed and then has the chance to release.  This class is a great complement if you have an active lifestyle (active yoga, running, cycling, sports etc) or if you are wanting a calming, meditative type of practice.  Suitable for all students.

    This active practice is dynamic in nature and creates mindful movements from one posture to the next and challenges you to find flexibility, strength and concentration with in your postures.  A combination of sun salutations, standing postures, balances, twists, seated and lying postures are weaved together into a fun, themed class with music.  This class creates a workout type feel while toning the body and clearing your mind.  This is an athletic practice and it is recommended that students feel strong through classic sun salutations.

    This 12 week groups is for moms with a child under 2 years old, struggling with postpartum depression/anxiety/adjustment. This is a self-help support group in which different topics such as depression, anxiety, anger, healthy boundaries, relationships and transition/adjustment will be addressed. The group is closed (not open to drop-ins) and confidential. It is limited to 10 participants.

    This group is free of charge and babies under 2 are welcome.

    This class is a combination of yin and restorative yoga poses, and ends with yogic nidra otherwise known as yogic sleep. 
    Yin Yoga works to gently stretch the connective tissues of the fascia, tendons and ligaments.  Students are encouraged not to force their muscles, but instead to breathe and allow the body to open and release in its own time. Emphasis is placed on mindful awareness of one’s own body. Yin Yoga is available to all. The class will end with with restorative yoga that uses bolsters as props to emphasize support and deep relaxation, then, Lj guides you through yoga nidra as the icing on the cake and you fully surrender into bliss.

    This 20 hr (15 contact hours) workshop is designed for yoga teachers, mental health care professionals, and health care providers who want to apply a trauma informed lens using the evidence-based techniques of Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). This training is beneficial for healing professions supporting trauma survivors in journey of recovery.

    * Note: you DO NOT need to be a certified yoga instructor to attend.

    TRAINING DETAILS:
    This anti-oppressive approach to healing supports recovery from individual and collective long-term trauma through movement, present moment experiences and choice.

    The generative training will provide tools for understanding the impacts of stress and trauma on the nervous system and how this practice could facilitate peace building from within, through mending bodies and nervous systems. Participants will learn to foster this anti-oppressive approach to healing through the application of a trauma-informed lens. Developing an understanding of complex trauma, attachment theory, and the neuroscience underpinning the TCTSY methodology, participants foster skills to facilitate a movement and breath practice that could support healing from long term trauma.

    TCTSY is an adjunct treatment grounded in the western medical model with robust research demonstrating successful outcomes for those with treatment resistant Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This is the only yoga technique registered as an evidence based practice with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA) in the United States.

    This training is the pre-requisite required to apply for the 300-hr TCTSY Certification Program with the Trauma Center.

    Pre-requisites:
    Curiosity.

    RECOMMENDATION:
    Please prioritize a plan for self care throughout the weekend of the training. This training is being offered in a location where connection with nature is accessible which can supportive for one’s nervous system. This connection is valuable because the training can be demanding and it is supportive to create space for integration and digestion of material. There is the possibility of being triggered by material or content that might come up in discussions, therefore please come prepared with tools and resources that support your nervous system.

    FACILITATOR BIO:
    Nicola Mosley MSW, RSW, E-RYT, TCTSY-F and Faculty Member of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment.

    As a passionate yoga practitioner, Nicola integrated yoga with her Masters in Social Work. Her practicum led to studying Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) in Boston at the Trauma Center. Learning with David Emerson, Director of Yoga Services and co-author of the book ‘Overcoming Trauma Through Yoga’ inspired her to keep developing her understanding and teaching this technique.     This class is a combination of yin and restorative yoga poses, and ends with yogic nidra otherwise known as yogic sleep. 
    Yin Yoga works to gently stretch the connective tissues of the fascia, tendons and ligaments.  Students are encouraged not to force their muscles, but instead to breathe and allow the body to open and release in its own time. Emphasis is placed on mindful awareness of one’s own body. Yin Yoga is available to all.     This active practice is dynamic in nature and creates mindful movements from one posture to the next and challenges you to find flexibility, strength and concentration with in your postures.  A combination of sun salutations, standing postures, balances, twists, seated and lying postures are weaved together into a fun, themed class with music.  This class creates a workout type feel while toning the body and clearing your mind.  This is an athletic practice and it is recommended that students feel strong through classic sun salutations.

    This 12 week groups is for moms with a child under 2 years old, struggling with postpartum depression/anxiety/adjustment. This is a self-help support group in which different topics such as depression, anxiety, anger, healthy boundaries, relationships and transition/adjustment will be addressed. The group is closed (not open to drop-ins) and confidential. It is limited to 10 participants.

    This group is free of charge and babies under 2 are welcome.

    Whether your lifestyle involves sitting for extended periods of time, intense training, or recreational activities — tightness in our hips and hamstrings is common.  In this class we delve deeply into these areas as we open, close, strengthen, and stabilize our hips and hamstrings to make them healthier and happier together.  The first portion of class will invite the exploration of heating and energizing movement . The last portion of class incorporates longer holds and meditation to melt away tension and stress.

    Together we will explore the basic concepts of modern dance including proper warming up, strengthening techniques, alignment, movement vocabulary, and rhythm.  Each class will build on the one prior.  This modern dance session is designed to be fun and engaging for everyone, regardless of experience.  Please wear comfortable clothing (layers suggested) with bare feet or socks.

    Yin and Yoga Nidra
    Instructor: LJ Jackett
    This class is a combination of yin and restorative yoga poses, and ends with yogic nidra otherwise known as yogic sleep. 
    Yin Yoga works to gently stretch the connective tissues of the fascia, tendons and ligaments.  Students are encouraged not to force their muscles, but instead to breathe and allow the body to open and release in its own time. Emphasis is placed on mindful awareness of one’s own body. Yin Yoga is available to all. The class will end with with restorative yoga that uses bolsters as props to emphasize support and deep relaxation, then, Lj guides you through yoga nidra as the icing on the cake and you fully surrender into bliss.

    Pilates All Levels offers the option to introduce yourself to the Pilates foundations and advance at your own pace taking on more challenge as you are ready.
