I am a lover of story-telling and poetry, the peace and wild of the outdoors, yoga and moving my body, solitude and silence, laughter and community, delicious food, and of course, my beloved children and family. These are the ways I nourish myself.
My work with people started over 20 years ago, volunteering with Victoria’s homeless population and offering outreach to adolescents living and working on the streets.
Since that time, I have supported and counselled people with disabilities, students, youth involved in the criminal justice system, youth and adults with addictions and mental health concerns, multi-stressed families and couples in crisis. My current specialized interests are mindfulness-based couples counselling, perinatal and maternal mental health, family therapy, and somatic therapies including yoga and Hakomi.
My approach has been heavily influenced by my teachers and mentors both in the fields of counselling and yoga. I draw from narrative therapy, mindulness-based cognitive therapy, family-systems therapy, postmodern and dialogic approaches, solution-focused therapy, emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), attachment-based approaches and Hakomi.
My personal experience with postpartum depression has deepened my awareness and expanded my capacity to empathize with and support mothers with young children. I am passionate about promoting and supporting maternal mental health; helping mothers to ride the wave of bliss and exhaustion during this unique time period, to find meaning and support amidst the messiness, and to maintain a compassionate relationship with oneself during this time.
When I’m not at work, I can be found enjoying the west coast lifestyle, chasing my 2 young children, riding a bike or doing downward dog.
