    From warming up with movement – to building strength in longer holds we will explore poses and sequences that are more challenging.  This class will have more movement and perhaps more strenuous for shoulders and wrists – but options will be offered.  Working through Vinyasa sequences and layering on power moves then finishing with a good stretch is my intention for this class.  Join me to challenge yourself but also to ensure your basic alignment, the foundation of all good yoga, is there to help deepen your practice in a safe way.

    I have worked closely with clients for over twenty years as a Registered Massage Therapist in clinical practice, and five years as a Somatic Yoga Instructor. I deeply value the healing experience that I witness in people who practice this kind of gentle movement class.
    You will be guided in gentle movement on your mat to repattern your neuromuscular system. Through the practice of deep breathing techniques and mindful awareness you will discover areas of your body that are stuck in something called sensory motor amnesia, a chronically tight state in deep postural muscles. You will discover movement and relaxation techniques to unlock these patterns and feel a renewed sense of ease and comfort in your joints and muscles.     A dynamic and uplifting class designed to introduce you to modern dance rooted in release technique.

    Each class begins with a warm-up, then movement in the centre of the room, some short sequences, and then we will build up to a whole dance piece (building on sequences each week).

    Here is some information you might find helpful:

    What do I wear?

    Please wear clothes that are comfortable to move in (yoga clothing is just fine). Layers are recommended. You may or may not choose to wear socks.

    What does the flow of the class look like?

    We typically start on the floor for some warm-ups before moving to standing. Then we will work in the centre of the room before moving across the floor. The class will then move into working on a short choreographic sequence that we will take turns moving through in groups.

    Do I need to have taken a dance class before?

    Absolutely not! This class is 100% accessible to everyone, and I am always happy to go over things more than once!

    Will there be music and what kind?

    Yes! There will be music. What kind depends on the mood and what we are doing that day! You will hear a wide variety.

    Heather Evans, MS, E-RYT 200 is a self-care and empowerment coach, dance instructor, and yoga teacher living in the Comox Valley with her husband and two wee ones. Heather received her BA in Dance from Denison University (studying under Gill Wright Miller, Sandra Mathern-Smith and trained in yoga with Cat Kabira, Simone Mackay, Tina Nance, and Randall O’Leary. She has always been enamoured with movement and energetics and is passionate about sharing her love of these things with others. In her classes, there is an emphasis on emotional safety, personal empowerment, and fun.

    Restorative Yoga Mini Series with Ashley Harmsworth

    Restore, relax, unwind and reset. This restorative yoga mini-series is designed to be a form of conscious rest. The aim is for the body to feel almost “weightless” while you are held with props to support the body’s natural alignment. All postures are low, and close to the ground, with ease and minimal movement. Nowadays, our body is always “braced for impact,” and sometimes we forget how to relax. With this mini-series, you can find the time to hold space and allow yourself to reset the mind, body and soul. Restorative yoga helps to open the lungs, release tension in the body, and most importantly activate the parasympathetic nervous system to allow us to relax. All ages and abilities are welcome. No yoga experience is necessary.

    Beginning Modern Dance for Adults, 7:30 – 9:15pm with Heather

    A dynamic and uplifting class designed to introduce you to modern dance rooted in release technique.

    Each class begins with a warm-up, then movement in the centre of the room, some short sequences, and then we will build up to a whole dance piece (building on sequences each week).

    Here is some information you might find helpful:

    What do I wear?

    Please wear clothes that are comfortable to move in (yoga clothing is just fine). Layers are recommended. You may or may not choose to wear socks.

    What does the flow of the class look like?

    We typically start on the floor for some warm-ups before moving to standing. Then we will work in the centre of the room before moving across the floor. The class will then move into working on a short choreographic sequence that we will take turns moving through in groups.

    Do I need to have taken a dance class before?

    Absolutely not! This class is 100% accessible to everyone, and I am always happy to go over things more than once!

    Will there be music and what kind?

    Yes! There will be music. What kind depends on the mood and what we are doing that day! You will hear a wide variety.

    Heather Evans, MS, E-RYT 200 is a self-care and empowerment coach, dance instructor, and yoga teacher living in the Comox Valley with her husband and two wee ones. Heather received her BA in Dance from Denison University (studying under Gill Wright Miller, Sandra Mathern-Smith and trained in yoga with Cat Kabira, Simone Mackay, Tina Nance, and Randall O’Leary. She has always been enamoured with movement and energetics and is passionate about sharing her love of these things with others. In her classes, there is an emphasis on emotional safety, personal empowerment, and fun.

    Restorative Yoga Mini Series with Ashley Harmsworth

    Restore, relax, unwind and reset. This restorative yoga mini-series is designed to be a form of conscious rest. The aim is for the body to feel almost “weightless” while you are held with props to support the body’s natural alignment. All postures are low, and close to the ground, with ease and minimal movement. Nowadays, our body is always “braced for impact,” and sometimes we forget how to relax. With this mini-series, you can find the time to hold space and allow yourself to reset the mind, body and soul. Restorative yoga helps to open the lungs, release tension in the body, and most importantly activate the parasympathetic nervous system to allow us to relax. All ages and abilities are welcome. No yoga experience is necessary.

    Dates:  Thursdays, June 15-July 6

    I have worked closely with clients for over twenty years as a Registered Massage Therapist in clinical practice, and five years as a Somatic Yoga Instructor. I deeply value the healing experience that I witness in people who practice this kind of gentle movement class.
    You will be guided in gentle movement on your mat to repattern your neuromuscular system. Through the practice of deep breathing techniques and mindful awareness you will discover areas of your body that are stuck in something called sensory motor amnesia, a chronically tight state in deep postural muscles. You will discover movement and relaxation techniques to unlock these patterns and feel a renewed sense of ease and comfort in your joints and muscles. Your mind and body will relax and you will walk out feeling a renewed vitality to take on your life once again!
    This class is suitable for all ages, abilities, and orientations.
